This was MedbeautyLab’s first meeting with schoolchildren—a format that became special to us. Aija explained what a podiatrist does, how to care for feet, how to choose shoes, and why it’s important not to ignore the first signs of discomfort or pain. The students listened with interest and actively participated in the discussion. “A podiatrist isn’t scary or painful. We help feet stay healthy so that children can dance, play sports, and simply feel confident,” noted podiatrist Aya Skvarkovska.

Caring for children is an important part of our work
MedbeautyLab regularly treats young patients. We offer a specialized service—“Nail Consultation and Care for Children (Ages 0–12)”—which provides preventive care and safe nail correction for children and teenagers. What Is a “Consultation with a Podiatrist”?
A “Consultation with a Podiatrist” is an interactive session where MedbeautyLab specialists explain and demonstrate how daily habits and footwear choices affect foot health. It’s not a dry lecture, but rather a lively discussion and demonstration that helps participants better understand their bodies and recognize the importance of prevention. During the session, Aya Skvarkovska explained why even “comfortable” shoes can cause fatigue and pain, demonstrated how to properly measure your foot and choose the right size, and answered participants’ questions.

Practical Session
Following the lecture, a practical demonstration was held, including foot measurements, shoe sizing, and personalized mini-consultations. Each participant received personalized recommendations on foot care and shoe selection, taking into account the specific shape of their feet and their workload. “We are seeing companies increasingly focus on the health of their employees. Healthy feet mean not only comfort, but also energy, concentration, and a positive mood,” noted podiatrist Aya Skvarkovska.

From September 2023 to March 2025, certified podiatrist Aija Skvarkovska taught at the Paula Stradiņa College of the University of Latvia—one of Latvia’s leading educational institutions, which trains professionals in the health and beauty sectors.

The college trains future podiatrists, cosmetologists, physical therapists, medical assistants, dental hygienists, and other professionals who have chosen a career path focused on caring for people.

From Graduate to Instructor
For Aija, this stage has been particularly significant—after all, it was at Paula Stradiņa College where she earned her podiatry degree in 2020 and took her first steps in the profession. Returning as an instructor means sharing her experience, inspiring, and supporting those who are just beginning their journey. “I once sat in their shoes—with the same questions and the same curiosity. Now I have the opportunity to show students that the profession of a podiatrist is not just a technical skill, but an art and a responsibility,” says Aija Skvarkovska.

Aya discussed the signs that professionals should look out for and demonstrated how knowledge of podiatry can make their work safer and more effective. “Podiatry and the beauty industry are closely linked. Both require attentiveness, precision, and a sincere desire to help people. It’s always nice to see professionals who strive to develop and improve their skills,” emphasized podiatrist Aya Skvarkovska.
